3 Words for 2020

Updated: Jan 3

I spent some time over that last couple of weeks reflecting on the past decade.

Ten years.

I can hardly believe it's been that long. As with any other span of time, this past 10 years has had it's wins and challenges and I fully credit this 3 word exercise for keeping me focused on the wins (especially when things got challenging).

As in previous years, before we get to this year's words, let's look at how I did in 2019.

My 3 words for 2019 were Collaboration, Basics and Profit.

Overall, I think I did quite well with my words this past year.

Collaboration - I expanded my professional collaborations with other health and wellness providers which opened more doors to collaborate with new professionals. One of the collaborations I am looking forward to in 2020 is with Anne Torrez of Tri It Your Way Coaching at her MultiSport Training Camp in May.

Basics - This was the one that provided me the most focus in 2019. My original intent for this word was not what it ended up being, however, that's one of the things I love about the 3 words, the fluidity of how the words you choose don't pigeon-hole you into one specific meaning. Originally my intent was to bring my team back to basics, and instead, I brought the whole organization back to basics. I went back to my roots and reverted the growth that I started in 2017 back to a solo practice so I could learn how to do it better. I couldn't be happier with that decision and look forward to better more targeted growth in the future.

Profit - I think this word was the one that needed the most work in 2019. There were lots of changes, lots of expensive learning mistakes and a few "shiny chickens" along the way that could have made PROFIT a stronger focus this year. One big thing that did come out of this word is I read the book Profit First by Mike Michalowicz and learned how to change the way I look at the needs and wants of my company.

Now, for the moment you've been waiting for, my 3 words for 2020

Explore - I want to explore...everything. Place, information, self-growth, personal relationships. The feeling of exploration is exciting and I am looking forward to where it leads.

Values - What are my core values? What are the core values of my company? How do those values inform the decisions I make, or don't make and how can I live a more fulfilling life based on those values?

Consistency - This is likely going to be the one I will focus on the most. Consistency has never been one of my strengths, but I know that in doing things in a more consistent manner I will see better results no matter the task.

So, what about you? What are your 3 words? Head over to my Facebook page and let me know.
