You love to run because it helps you manage your mental and physical health, fosters a sense of community and pushes you in ways you never thought were possible. 

 

Sometimes, in the pursuit of the love of running, injuries happen and you don’t know why or what to do about it so you ask your running community only to become more confused with a million different suggestions and all you want is for the pain to go away.

 

You know a proper recovery plan that includes things like strength training, foam rolling, maybe a little stretching will help decrease your chances of injury, but you don't know if you're doing the right things, don’t do it regularly or maybe you don’t do it at all.

I get it. All you really want is to run.

 

Whether it's train for  a big race like the Boston Marathon, run your first 5K or just get a full night sleep without your pain waking you up in the middle of the night. The Healthy Runner Program is about formulating the right plan and the right combination of manual soft tissue work and corrective exercise - ones you actually need - to get your better results.

Why is being a more efficient runner important to injury prevention? Inefficiency slows things down. Period. Having imbalances in your body make your muscles work harder under stress. It makes them use more energy to produce results and will eventually  lead to injury and pain.

What it's like to work with me

It goes a little something like this....

It's lots of food analogies and the occasional 80s pop song reference or movie quote.

It's understanding what motivates you, small steps and tiny tweaks that produce big results.

It's lots of education (but the fun stuff, not memorizing text books and pop quizzes) and geeking out (especially about anatomy).

It's documenting the journey through progress notes, journaling and communication from where you are now to where you want to be. Being able to look back and say "wow I did that!"

It's modifying and adjusting the program as you get stronger or different needs arise so you'll know exactly what to do even after the program is complete. 

It's teaching you that this is a life long journey--it's a marathon not a sprint.

What's the next step?

Look, I'm gonna be straight up honest (cause that's how I roll.) This program isn't for everyone and that's ok. This is not a quick fix. It is not a "oh I am not in pain any more so I don't have to continue the work". This is about changing your habits and and understanding the importance of making recovery a priority in order to reach your running goals. We will be spending a lot of time working together so before we take the next step, here are some things to consider. 

Time

Do you have the time to dedicate to daily work for the next 6 months + to the program? On average you will need to set aside 1-2 hours 3-5x a week. To get big results it's not about just getting it done but doing it right. 

Why 6 months or more? You've likely been neglecting your recovery plan and as they say, Rome wasn't built in a day. There is only so much we can do at once and to make real, lasting progress takes commitment.  

Budget

Do you spend money on yourself and/or self-care?

I'm not talking about just making sure you replace your running shoes regularly, although that is part of it.

 

The Healthy Runner Program is just that, a program. It's an investment in your health and wellbeing, not a one off or couple of sessions and you're done sort of thing. Participants get the most of my time, energy, and expertise so if the program creates a financial hardship for you, maybe it's not right, right now. 

Mindset

Do you have the patience to work through stubborn injuries?

A component of our work will be changing your thinking and mindset around prioritizing self-care and recovery from a single event to a continuous flow.

There are often multiple muscle groups involved in running injuries and preventing them means unraveling the tangled web. At times there might be temporary setbacks that will lead to big gains, Do you have the patience to come through it on the other end?
